Ways To Raise Money – To Start Your Own Online Gig

'Piggybank'

FINANCING an ONLINE AFFILIATE BUSINESS is a cost-effective way to start an online business as well as being low-risk. But maybe you are a little strapped for cash to get started. So, let’s look at the Wealthy Affiliate example to get an idea of the cost, then look at ways to raise the funds to start your own gig online. It is indeed possible to run an entire Affiliate Business online for about $500. With the right training, support and tools there is no reason why you can’t have the same success as many thousands of others. It really is a cost effective way to get going.

$359 Will Pay For A Year – A Wealthy Affiliate Example

$359 is ENOUGH to get an online revenue earning business up and running in Wealthy Affiliate for a WHOLE YEAR! I’m not kidding. I’m using this example as it will give you the best value for your money, it’s the platform I use. It actually is FREE to get started there, but for now you can READ HERE to see what is available in Wealthy Affiliate and to get registered. Compared to starting a traditional business, and the potential earning power from your own online business, it’s a GREAT option. Actually, it is BETTER than great when you are shown how.

So, because this post is about raising funds to get you started, here are five ideas, but of course there are many more than this.

#1. TradeMe Online Auction

Sell something on TradeMe, NZs ONLINE AUCTION house – Get a TradeMe account (or similar like eBay) for free and sell goods you no longer use and ask family and friends for the stuff they want to be rid of – good stuff mind you – not broken or dirty stuff as this

'My Junk, Someones Treasure'

wouldn’t be cool at all. With the buy-now feature, you could get your stuff sold within a day, or just let the auction go for a few more days. You only pay when your stuff is sold.

#2. An Advice Service

Say you are an expert in something – but something that others would freely pay for to get your expert advice, and you could provide the service online using a free FREE calling app such as ZOOM or something similar. The great thing about ZOOM is that you can share your computer screen with your client or several clients at the same time, to show graphs and other information for example.

#3. Garage Sale/s

Have you got packed closets, draws or a shed that needs clearing out? If you’ve got loads of gear you don’t want anymore, have a garage sale over a day or two. Invite all of your neighbors, friends, family and advertise your garage sale on social media or run a low-cost ad in your local newspaper. Clearing out the house and making money is a no-brainer.

#4. Writing Website Content

If you love to write and research – why not advertise your services to research and write content for website owners to use on their websites. Or be a guest writer on someone elses website who are willing to pay you for your article. Again using social media, you could let your following know about this service – It’s possible to earn $60 US per 1000 word article. This is just for writing text according to the clients needs.

#5. Do Odd Jobs Around The Neighbourhood'mowing the lawn'

Neighbors but also friends and family are a good source of income especially for the odd jobs they have around the place. Jobs like washing exterior walls and windows, clearing rubbish or re-organizing the shed. Perhaps it’s weeding gardens or washing their vehicles or painting a fence. The jobs are endless.

  1. Thank you for the information! I’ve been working on starting a small online business, but have struggles mainly coming up with additional money to cover the basic start up costs. I was not aware of TradeMe online auctions and think that gives me a ton of ideas of things I can sell for extra money! Have you had much success selling on TradeMe? What expectations should I have?

    • Hi Cameron! I have had great success with Trade me which is NZs online auction house. If you are auctioning products that need ‘shipping’, then you need to arrange this yourself. Or if auction items are being ‘picked up’, then you are waiting around for people to collect their stuff. Payment is arranged in the auction and several option are available. It comes with the usual risks but they are minimal. Hope this helps you Cameron.

  2. Interesting – I hadn’t heard of advice services before. I might have to look into that.

You mention selling things on line (and in garage sales), and even asking friends and family for things they might be willing to let you sell online – all great ways to make some extra cash. I work at Goodwill, so I would like to suggest resale stores as other sources for selling online. Of course, with resale stores you’re going to have to pay for the item up front, and you also have to do a little research on whether or not it will sell, so it’s more on an investment, and not for everyone. But we make a lot of sales to online resellers, so I thought it might be worth suggesting.

Thanks for taking the time to suggest resale stores which I think is another great way to make some extra cash. I have done this myself and had fun doing it…and it paid off as well. Sure you need to have money to buy the items you are going to resell but they needn’t be big ticket items and it’s amazing what you can find in a secondhand store for a bargain and resell for a great profit.

Thanks agian Shannah for stopping by.

  3. Hi Rina,

Great ways to make some quick money!

I’ve used eBay to sell a few things but, their commissions began to get too high and I wasn’t making enough of a profit.

And, Amazon’s commissions were even worse.  They nickel and dime you to death!

Garage sales are great – as long as you work it in pairs.  One person to sell to interested buyers – and one person to watch for “interested shoplifters.”  You heard it right – I can’t believe it either – that I actually had shoplifters trying to steal the cheapest items on the table – including old rusty silverware!

Have you ever tried Fiverr?  I’ve heard that it is a great place to hook up with someone for unique kinds of odd jobs.  I was wondering if I should give it a try…

    • Hi Jim,

I think that trying Fiverr is a great idea and there are some great services being offered there by all sorts of people. If you think you have a service that fits, then why not offer it to others.

Let me know how you get on Jim.

Having someone help you with a garage sale is a great idea, so asking a neighbour, family or freinds to help you out would be good.

      Regards 🙂

  4. I like writing website content. It helps me learn new things and socialize with many different people around the world at the same time. For the making money part, I need to be patient. Garage sale sometimes I will do it when I got some valuable junk. Odd jobs are fun too during my weekends.

    • Hi Kit!

Glad you stopped by and pleased to have your comments. Nice to hear that you enjoy content writing and learning new things. Persistance with the writing will pay off in the end if your intention is to earn from your own blog website.

Sometimes people need a little hand with costs to set up their own blogging website and to get the proper training to get started, and a garage sale or doing odd jobs for neighbours and friends is an excellent way to do this. But actually, it’s entirely possible to get started and even start earning at no cost.

But when you want to earn some serious money, then a small monthly cost or discounted annual cost would be required. Wealthy Affiliate is such a platform where no money is required to get started. I love this about them, giving people to explore the training and community first.

I wish you all the best with your writing and online ventures Kit.

      Regards 🙂

  5. Hello, what great tips you pointed out here, I have never thought of some of them such as garage sale or taking your stuff to a second hand store.

Many a time we have good stuff that we do not need or use anymore but are just collecting dust in our garages, or just packed away. So why not even sell some at cheaper prices to those who need it and you get some needed cash!

The social media sale is good but nowadays one has to do it cautiously as the bad guys may take advantage pretending wanting to buy but just want an opportunity to rob you especially in areas with high crime. So I would advise that only invite the people you know.

    • Hiya! Glad you took time to read the article and for commenting and cautioning the readers to sales on Social Media. I use only verified sites myself as both sellers and buyers are protected to some extent. But if one does use social media, then agreeing to meet in a public arena to complete a transaction might be the way to go instead of using your private address.

Thanks again for taking time to share.

      Regards 🙂

  6. Using apps like TradeMe is great. LetGo is a good app, and I believe they’re worldwide too or at least available in many countries. I think these days it’s easier to sell unwanted stuff or stuff people don’t use because of apps like TradeMe and LetGo.

I think there are a lot of people who use sites like Craigslist and other marketplaces to find free stuff and resell them. Takes a bit of effort to do that, but I bet it’s worth it for some people.
